Has there ever been a good case of a time travel novel that goes backward? The Time Machine was pretty much only forward.

going backwards in time makes no sense, only going forward makes sense since we're all going forward in time anyways just some people can go faster than others

well yeah but cyclical history goes in a corkscrew i think one of my professors said toynbee wrote about that, like if some dude at the end of the roman empire was like transport me back in time to the high point of rome fuck this declining bullshit he might end up at a future highpoint in the cycle like 1890s london or some shit u feel me, i mean toynbee didnt write about time travel but corkscrew history, it would be way better if we didnt have to write in this little fucking box holy shit this sucks
there's got to be some crazy fever dream type novels.
Both The Saragossa Manuscript and Hard to Be a god (movie versions) had something similar going on but it wasn't time travel as time travel is too genre fictjjkn
