most of them were devoted to personal reminiscences, often in lighter vein, their exclusion
was thought unlikely to detract from the book's value in a strictly historical sense. A number
of detailed appendices, however, have also been omitted, leaving only those which were

I was at the checkout mere seconds away from paying when I read this on the inside cover. Made me feel physically sick. Pic related is the guilty edition - DO NOT BUY. Abridging great works of literature pisses me off but what really rubs salt in the wound is that in addition:
