I'm writing a story. It's not going to be anything fancy, just a fun little project I feel like doing. It's gonna be a story of dumb fuckhead friends going monster hunting.
I got a list of things I might or might not implement, but I'm curious /lit/, what are your favorite monsters, legends, urban legends, or folklore?
Bump. Com'on /lit/, I'm genuinely curious.
Especially any kinds of lesser known local legends.

in my hometown of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, they do the whole Groundhog Day thing, where they take a groundhog out of his box and try to assess whether he can see his shadow. This is supposed to predict whether there is an early or late spring. A couple years ago, the groundhog bit the mayor's ear while he was supposed to be whispering his prediction. Funny shit. It's now my favorite folk tale legend.
I also like Bigfoot conspiracies.

Wait, so he just got bit? It wasn't a rumor that he was cursed or anything? That's... not quite what I had in mind, but I'm not judging.
I like the "bigfoot subspecies" more than bigfoot direct, especially the sheepsquatch. But I've always had a soft spot for the el chupacabra. You never forget your first cryptid.

English legend around Northern areas of England identify a black, ghostly dog that runs round rural countrysides usually leading travellers astray. The legend was popularised mostly by Charlotte Bronte's depiction of The Gytrash in Jane Eyre but its also known as the Shagfoal or the Barghest as well.
Incidentally, a similar black hound known as the Shuck is a more malevolent version of such a creature and is reported to be the thing that left these ' burnt scratch marks' in a church door. There is more in this article:

Anyway there's one for you. Hop you enjoy.

Oh, I very much do! Thank you very much. I do know of hell hounds, but I never got far into the mythology. I always thought they were just portents, like the ban side. I always enjoy a good mauling tho.
Nothing freaks me out more than the flatwoods monster. pretty hell.
I've always been a fan of the Mothman.

And Anansi's Goatman as well is one of the scarier creepypastas I've read.

what are your favorites? or... least favorites asd the case may be?

I listen to Chills, you know, one of those spooky lists guys and my favorite was the skinwalker story. Forget which video it was but the gist is, there are a group of people on this desert ranch or some shit. They split up, one in the truck and one on foot. The guy in the truck sees this huge dog sitting in the distance and radios his friend and asks "do you see that huge dog?" and his friend answers "THAT'S NOT A DOG, RUN IT OVER!"
