Why is ancient greek lit so important to read? What are its practical

I've noticed an increase in theSE SICK NATTY GAINS!!!!!!

It's because it's universally referenced in almost everything you can think of. Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates are quoted all the time in most philosphical texts and most high brow lit will reference Greek mythology or the Odyssey etc. and familiarity with the source material enriches understanding of the work.

You just need to know it to understand basic thoughts in contemporary culture and philosophy.

It's like ignoring Christianity when delving into Western literature. Classical Christian themes are simply an integral part of most of Western art, whether you believe in it or not.
