Because we study history through a western perspective. I don't see why this is an issue. If you want to deeply acknowledge the cultures and traditions of Africa, take a specialized course. If you're taking a generalized course on history in a western nation, we can only really gloss over the world outside the west and how it relates to us.

I'm also not sure what that person is on about. In America they basically forcefeed us African American culture and history. February was one of my least favorite months ever since I was a kid because we'd always have to listen to African American's give lectures at our school about their culture. Hell, even the colleges near me have black history classes now. One of the many reasons I'm opting to go to a good university out of the country.

You are lucky in the US if you were taught anything of Greece, Rome, or the silk road, or you have gone in specifically for that. You are lucky to even know the celtic people existed, minus the popular culture and myth celebrating it. The US education of history is not concerned with our descendants, but to create a pro-liberal framework for understanding history. When Africa is taught it is a moral story about denying a people their freedom. Very few in society care about da kangz n sheit except to pit it for or against this pro-liberal framework that pervades their comprehension of so-called history.

There really isn't much history to much of Africa prior to Europeans. There is no African Alexander the Great. Do you want to learn about the Bantu expansion? Because that was a pre-industrial genocide. Doesn't fit well with peaceful Africans.

Name one instance where someone elected to take African Studies or Indigenous Studies and was called out for cultural appropriation. I don't spend more than 15 minutes per day on that shit, so I don't think it is too harmful to me.

I just made this thread trying to prove me wrong, because when I saw that post I felt a little enraged with the guy who posted it. I could see him posting it and thinking how deep he is to ''care'' about something we don't really need to know, or are too abstract for us (knowing that african history and culture are full of different religions and shamanism).
Also, it is shameful how can a person think our white supremacist imperialist oppressor system neglected the black people history, but what about Asia, which would be much more cool to have the knowledge.
