Anybody read this collection?
Pretty fire selection from Emerson on Gifts [then some wild boring anthropology] then some post structuralists including Derrida, Cixous, Bourdieu, then some Americans looking back on Nietzsche, Derrida, Levinas.
Any suggestions on where to go with this?
Bourdieu is the only one legit thinker. The rest is a bad philsoophy, don't waste time on it. The whole gift theory is only interesting in narrow anthropologic sense: various versions of pre-capitalist, pre-feudal economies. Philosophical-psychoanalitycal generalisations like these of derrida or others are garbage. Why do you find it interesting anyway?

The Derrida piece wasn't psychoanalytical gernalisations, more invested in a discussion of time in the context of exchange. idek one piece argued that gift exchange/ gift giving virtue was the crux of Thus Spake Zarathustra and that fascinated me cuz i hadn't read it in that context b4.
