I haven't read the book yet but based on the synopsis I would have thought normies would have cringed away from reading it within a few pages for it to become that successful, does it have functional prose?

It's actually pretty easy to follow.
I would equate the prose to that of Maze Runner or any other contemporary young adult novel (although I think Cline meant for an older audience to read it).
He looks like Bubble's less autistic brother.
