Why do people pretend to like this? It's literally a soap opera plot with a ton of muh religion mixed in. There aren't even any good descriptions of anything.

It's reddit's favorite book. That ought to tell you everything you need to know. Dostoyevski is pleb filter
there are definitely some boring parts but sections like Yosima's backstory, The Grand Inquisitor, and the entire Ivan book, and the trial/ending make it worth it.

My thoughts exaclty; but I keep thinking about giving Dosto a second chance for all the praise he gets. Should I?

Nietzche and Freud are reddit, then.

Freud is reddit, yes, and so is Nietzsche (or should I say, Walter (((Kaufmann's))) interpretation of Nietzsche)
People shitting a lot on this book lately. Wonder if they read it.
Sometimes it feels like just a bunch of fedoras that just can't appreciate religion on their literature just for being edgelords, disregarding any aesthetic merit.
I guess this book really is a pleb filter.
Kill u r self
Elements of melodrama do not make a work bad in and of themselves. The book has a remarkable understanding of psychology few writers display to this day and explores some of the most important questions human have about their place in the world.
You're fibbing if you say you can't understand why people love this book.
Here's another (You)

I've literally read the first 350 pages four times. Always lose interest right around there. Religion - we get it! Move on ffs.
