What are some of the most fucked up, sadistic, depraved, gut wrenching, violent, creepy, or scary books out there?

I have, but have not read all of the following:

The Cement Factory, Blood Meridian (mild in comparison), The Wasp Factory, House of Leaves, Naked Lunch, Crash, Throne of Bones, The Story of the Eye.

I prefer books with less of an emphasis on sex (ie. The Story of the Eye) but I'm still open to reading them.

I'm really loving The Wasp Factory. I think I'm enjoying it because it's so completely divorced from who I am that it's shocking to read this fucked up kids thoughts. I'm not shocked in the sense that I'm sheltered, just that it's neat noticing the little similarities shared between everyday life and the lives of these depraved characters. Makes you wonder what the cracking point is for some people.

I just finished American Psycho and it was far more fucked up than the movie, much beyond my expectation

Yeah, that's actually what I'd heard. I'll check it out thanks!

These are too tame. Anything better?

For some reason this didn't really disturb me at all. Like, there are elements of what could be unnerving things, but somehow the narration took it all away. Felt more like I was reading a book about some r9k weirdo than anything.

"Boy"
>>
>>9793136

120 days of sodom

But that kinda numbs you really quickly. The way everything becomes so incredibly methodical just for the sake of shock, and the fact that the victims have no personalities whatsoever, brings it down.

The devil all the time. It follows some really disturbed fuckers in the mid west and dirty south of America, getting into all kinds of unholy habits. The descriptions of the dreadful places these characters live, what they eat and drink, how they survive and how fast they are able to descend into pure terror and evil given their circumstances is unsettling to say the least.

It is fiction. However, if you know anything about serial killers, child abuse, over religious zealots, etc. you realize this book may be fiction, but not far from a possible truth either.

The couple in the book that picked up hitch hikers for example was the most disturbing thing I read in a while. And yes I have read American Psycho.

Anyways, I really enjoyed this book. It was comfy (depiction of small peaceful towns, kind people, etc) and horrifying at the same time which is a combination hard to find.

Pic related; the cover, if you are interested.

I have not read the wasp factory yet. I have it on my e-reader tho so I'll be reading it soon enough. I'm excited since I have read some of Banks's Culture books and loved it.

Curiousity is all.

The Room by Hubert Selby.

In brief, a prisoner has a series of sadistic fantasies.

I read to the point it started getting to where I was warned it was going to go, and stopped, because I just didn't want to go there. But it's clear that it goes there, in spades.

Kane was really fucked up. Great playwright though. Just compartmentalize that shit and don't bring her up in public. Of the same era, Anthony Nielson does some similar shit but not as well.

The Consumer
