Why is literature around the world so horrible compared to russian

Is metro actually good though?
I picked up a copy for 50 cents used but I haven't bothered yet.

I really liked the first 2 Metros, Metro 2035 is good as well but it kinda fucks the whole story up.
If you are intro dystopian scifi, try reading Futu.re fom Dmitry Glukhovsky.
