if it's at all political, it's political in the made-up sphere of the colony. my biggest problem with the book was an almost complete lack of visual references. finished it without any clear idea of what the locals looked like or where they lived.

it's almost as if he tried to write it while deliberately omitting something to see if anyone would notice, and they didn't.
