Isn't alt-right more of an umbrella term that could encompass anything right-wing that isn't either mainstream conservatism (neocon or paleocon forms) or libertarianism? So alt-right could range from being a monarchist to out right fascist? BOTOH, I guess the alt-right also has plenty of Trumpian civic nationalists.

This book is pretty good, it's meant for people like you and me who aren't literary genius like Shakespeare.

What edition is that of the pale king? It seems so thin.
>>
>>9758742
I first learned about it years ago in an essay about Hobbes and Rousseau. Then I saw it cited by Simon Baron-Cohen in The Essential Difference so I added it to my reading list. I figured it'll be a neat contrast to Schelling's Arms and Influence (war in primitive societies versus the role of nuclear weapons in 20th century grand strategy).

>>9759600
Some of you guys have a really odd insecurity about appearing "deep." I'd also take your disdain of Pinker more seriously if you offered actual reasons for why he isn't worth reading, not dumb opinions.

Buddenbrooks was demanding as you can guess but I liked it, as oppossed to "The Magic Mountain" which I stopped reading after 200-ish pages.
Berdyczewski was very interesting, his grammar is so unique and his style gives the theme of "WOW GIRLS ARE SO PRETTY" a new prespective. But the main point of interest is his language.
Marquez was nice, but slightly overrated :)
I highly reccomend S. Izhar ("Hirbat Hiza'a", "Mikdamot"). He writes so beautifully.

I don't get it either. I keep two or three books max next to my bed. Anything else that I come across that piques my interest I'll just make a note of it.

Compulsively buying every book that sounds like something you'd wanna read just leaves you with huge piles of unread books. Used to do this myself for years, it's just not possible to keep up, better to just buy one at a time so you know for sure you'll read it.

It's not a major plot point, but the narrator/main character/literally Malaparte within his own semi-autobiographical story--that guy has a dog, and it dies in a really distressing, upsetting way. I won't give all the details, but it was bad enough that I almost cried, had to walk away from my book for like 15 minutes, and couldn't read Skin for the rest of the day. It still makes me sad when I think of it sometimes, and it's probably the single obstacle keeping me from reading Kaputt, as I really enjoyed the rest of his writing in The Skin.

I'm a bit mushy and am a dog person to boot, so I don't know if it would be as bad for you, but it really knocked me down.

That's a good stack but can you really read Heidegger? I doubt this. The translations are filled with German words and not being familiar with the language makes it impossible to clear through. Even if you handle German the ideas are so broadly spread that he is extremely hard to follow.

This was my opinion few years back when I loaned one of his works for a while. It was quite fast that I realised to return it since it was near impossible to grasp yet

>>
>>9768041

This fool doesn't read French well enough to know who Antoine Albalat was, nor the absolute pedagogical genius of his works on writing.

Kudos to you, hispanophone anon: I am rereading his series (maybe 4-5 books) on reading and writing and am amazed at the insight he provides. It's a great pity there isn't anything remotely similar for all the monolingual pseuds on here, it would make a difference.

Albalat was a decidedly right-wing French literary critic who put his money where his mouth was and wrote a series of books on how to write more efficiently. Available partly on Gallica, partly on Internet Archive.

>Out of town for work.
While this is perfectly fine, since it's the first sentence its better to start off with a distinction about who exactly is out of town so you might consider writing "I'm out of town for work."
>This is apparently was packed.
I have no idea what you are trying to say here.
>Getting more this weekend.
You should consider including the fact that you will get what I presume will be more books with the previous sentence as it will help the entire paragraph with its flow. Otherwise its just 5 short sentences.
>God, i have over 200 books in my personal library and most are shit tier crap like vampire diaries.
Never mix numerical symbols in.
Why the appeal to a higher power. Two hundred books doesn't make it a library. Vampire Diaries is the title of a series of books so should be written as such. The i wasn't capitalized. Try this instead.
Gosh, I've realized I own over two hundred books.
>Were can i sell this shit for the most profit
Again forgetting to capitalize the i. Omitting the question mark at the end is also an error. You also won't be making any profit on these books. A profit means getting back more money than what you paid for them initially.
Where can I sell all these what I deem to be worthless books for the most money?

To answer your question, just list them on your equivalent to Gumtree or Craigslist as the entire lot for $20.

I read the first, say, 5 or so pages....

It was fucking brutal. He throws hypotheses and theories at you like its fucking nothing, and then precedes to rip it apart and build it back up and - its *dense*, you can tell from the get go.

It isn't that the language is incredibly difficult; its that he so clearly knows these ideas inside and out, and I just cannot follow the deluge of information, argumentation, conclusion and iteration he goes through.

It was a nice easy read, only about a small paragraph of text on most pages, big font, big pages obviously. Lots of cool informative pictures, pic related is one of my favorites. I want to get some others from the series.

Haven't really started yet, I'm excited though. Was technically an econ major, but never really felt like I got a great understanding of macro econ or the theory: I only knew random ideas and equations with variables to solve for. It was all math, without any theoretical background to make the math more contextualized. So thats what i'm hoping for, at least.

Yupp all together too, i didn't even need to hunt through the stacks.

last time i was there i also found myself unexpectedly talking to some thot who was unsure about reading lolita. her reasoning for not wanting to read it was standard "muh pedophilia" (as though you're supposed to identify with every protagonist?). I told her it's good, to read Pale Fire to try to get a sense of Nabokov's writing ability and make the decision on her own based off that.
