I mean, dude literally murdered and cremated that girl. I understand struggling to sympathize somewhat. Couldn't disagree more that it's bad, just somewhat morally difficult.

The reason for the popularity of Native Son was that it was one of the very few black novels of it's time and it was written for a white audience.
Baldwin, a big fan of Wright, denounced Native Son as propaganda and thought it failed as a novel.
Ellison disliked everything about it and Invisible Man is, in part, a response to the victim narrative of Native Son. Incidentally Ellison's novel got him into a lot of trouble with the black community at the time.

kys you sorry excuse for a white person
>when he jerks off with his buddy in the movie theatre
good boi dindu nuffin: the book
Wright is a talented writer. He's like a black Dostoevsky with a socialist slant. He can really get you into the mind of the character, which is great for a thriller like Native Son, but especially in Black Boy.
Get some taste.

I read this in my AP Lit. class in high school, and it's one of the few books that I remember reading in it. This novel's noteworthiness rides on shock value, nothing else.
The other book that I remember from that class is No Country for Old Men; I remember it, because it was actually a good book.
