I'm starting school in a couple of months, pursuing a degree that involves a lot of writing. What are some good books on writing essays and organizing thoughts?
Pic related is something I've seen posted on here that I'm going to read next month.

You're going to want books that you can read thoroughly a few times and then return to them whenever you need inspiration. I would second that recommendation in pic-related for that reason. I would also recommended The Imaginative Argument by Frank Cioffi, which features a similar style to Thomas Kane, i.e. develops systems and provides exemplars, and Creative & Critical Thinking by W. Edgar Moore. The former can be found on libgen, and excerpts of the latter can be found in the autodidact general thread if you want to "try before you buy". If you want to read nonfiction, How to Read a Book by Adler is better. If you want to read fiction, The Art of Fiction by David Lodge is better. This isn't a bad book, but like a lot of "how to" books, this isn't actually about learning to do the thing as a beginner, but rather insight into the author's beliefs of the activity's purpose.
