LO! Fall not of that ISLE OP!
Is it enough to simply enjoy a book? It feels empty to enjoy a book and not be able to analyze it coherently.

I hear there are several ways to interpret Moby Dick, but the most convincing for me is a man's (Ahab's) personal struggle with God or the lack of God. A good amount of characters share names with prominent people mentioned in the old testament. The colour of the Whale is even significant for this motif. White is all the colours, but also an absence of any colour. Ahab's pain and commitment to destroying the whale is his journeys to find an answer to the existence of God, something we all struggle with to some degree.

Also, Ahab's fury directed to the Whale, and ultimately his destruction caused by the whale, is pretty consistent old testament as well.
The chapters with Ahab and crazy Pip are phenomenal
