"... in St. Petersburg, the most abstract and intentional city on the entire globe. (Cities and be intentional or unintentional) "

Forgot: What did he mean by this?

I think the underground man references St. Petersburg as "intentional" because of it was built with the intention of accessing the Baltic Sea, as well as moving the Russian capital towards the West, which was Peter the Greats goal with buildng the city.
>>9711705
literally a city artificially created by the state
>>9711705
St. Petersburg is a spooky place desu
>>9712108
Same thing, more or less
>>9712108
because it exists as an ideal of Russian cultural development
>>9711712
Read Belyis "Peterburg" to find out desu

Following from this, I suppose Peter the Great would be one of those people that Underground Man admired and who Raskolnikov (who is pretty much the Underground Man) in C&P wants to be like
It just underlines how pathetic he is in comparison desu
