the elite no longer seeks enlightenment from literature and philosophy. self-help, brain optimization, habit formation, new age thinking, social 'hacks', have gamified reading and information seeking into a competition of extracting maximally succesful pragmatic tactics.
no one reads, and those that read aren't reading - they're extracting
>60 books a year
lmao plebeians
I don't really see anything wrong with this. Who doesn't want to be more effective?
>>9703493
>authors summarizing their own books for you
this entirely debases the critical thinking skills the books are trying to teach
>>9703531
You never told us this in the OP.

I generally think getting a summary of a literary work from an author is stupid, but if it's a self-help book, essentially a lesson or mini-class in book form, then I don't think listening to the author give a lecture would be all that bad. A lot of these self-help books contain filler and repetition anyways.

Dear OP,
the image you posted is about a wholly different kind of book than this board is about. It's about books alright, but not about "literature". You seem to have confused the too and been triggered by the "60 books" thing whatever.
Some business men read self-improvement stuff – woo, what the heck! It doesn't matter at all! I'd even bet that those who read this stuff are exactly those whose careers are mediocre. Naturally successful, balanced people will do physical exercise or read actual literature.
Regards.
