It's a good introductory book. 20-30 page chapters on US Wars with various tribes. I found the chapters on the Nez Perce particularly moving.

Black Elk Speaks is great. I'm a big fan of people whose family histories include encounters with Indians. Someone way down my line got scalped in Oklahoma, one of my friends' ancestors hunted down the Indians who killed his brother like 8 years beforehand. That one's a better story. I suggest you ask around your friends and family for any cool stories.
