Which books should I read if I want to get a feel for the city of Berlin? Novels, non-fiction, whatever works. A few I've been considering:

Sven Regner - Berlin Blues
Christopher Isherwood - Berlin Stories
Alfred Döblin - Berlin Alexanderplatz
Robert Walser - Berlin Stories

historical or contemporary Berlin ? Big difference. While old Berlin maintained a character of it's own the present one is not much different from London or any other modern migrant/islam infested city in the west. Also most german authors today are libtards, leftists and unashamed apologists of mass imigration and islamisation. you might try Christian Kracht, though he isn't really redpilled either. If anyone can name a really redpilled (or blackpilled) german author of the present, please raise your hand.

I guess the Christiane F. book is quite good regarding 70's Berlin.

How about Botho Strauß?
>Am 2. Oktober 2015 veröffentlichte der Spiegel die Glosse "Der letzte Deutsche" von Strauß. In dieser beklagt er angesichts der Flüchtlingskrise in Europa 2015 das aus seiner Sicht bevorstehende Ende der deutschen Geistesgeschichte.

Also Thomas Glavinic (if we're talking aboug German-language lit, not lit from Germany) is at least writing politically controversial facebook posting afaik, haha. No idea how political his books are. Probably not that political.

There is one very unknown book that I stumbled upon by chance and thought was quite remarkable, "ego shooter" by Martin von Arndt. It's about some isolated guy who earns his money playing online video games. He falls sick in the "Karwoche" (the week before Easter) and eventually dies because he is too dumb / depressed to take his medication.
The book is always on the brink of feeling try-hard edgy, but still, interesting read.

Sadly von Arndt's publications since have been rather boring.

fallada often has characteristic berliners, but it only makes sense to read it in original. little man what now, wolf among wolves

well, compared to the mainstream crap he might be, but he is still firm within the confines and perimeter of the political system.

Am kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee by Thomas Brussig is a fun read about a group of teenagers living in East Berlin in the 70s. Very different from Berlin today, though, if that's what you're interested in

>Christiane F. book

By the way, there's supposedly a more contemporary version in "Axolotl Roadkill", featuring the Berghain and stuff. Haven't read it because I thought it'd probably be just as shitty as Berlin itself is. :-)

Just out of curiosity: Is the same thing true about Houellebecq in your opinion?

>same thing true about Houellebecq?
Tough question. I'm german not french, but I would say H. is an outsider (has always been as opposed to Strauß f.e.), but I wouldn't say he's outside the System (like Nick Land etc.)
