Alright /lit/, so I'm a huge fucking casual when it comes to reading books, as I only read Harry Potter when I was a kid, and throughout my teen years, all I read was manga. I read The Odyssey for high school, and I really enjoyed it, and I want to read more good shit. Only thing is, where do I start? I know there's a ton of great books out there, but it all seems pretty overwhelming. If it helps, I really like themes of existentialism, and nihilism (edgy I know, but it's just shit I like)

a lot of young men get introduced to literature by dostoevsky because his characters tend to be broodlords that 20 year olds can connect with.
Try Crime and Punishment
If you like that read his other books.
At that point you will have seen some references to other Russians, try their works.
At that point you have a little foothold in european lit from which to branch out

Dostoevsky was a guy I was looking at, huge thanks, I'll go out and get Crime and Punishment later. Also, would you guys say it doesn't matter how to read books? Like is it better on paper, or can I just download a PDF to my laptop, and be better off?

Personal preference
For me i can only really focus with physical book because this is how it was done back in school + i get too easily distracted if its on my pc

It's something you have to form your own opinion about.
Personally I only read with physical books.
Okay, sounds good. To me personally, it doesn't really matter, but I think I'll first download some PDFs, and if I don't like them, I'll just get them physically. Thanks anons.

There are studies that show you retain information better from reading a physical book because it involves more sensory experience.

Oh shit, nevermind then. I guess I'll go to my local bookstore afterall.

I fucking hate these threads. Should I read this book or that book? Should I get a hardcover or softcover? Should I crease the spine when I read? Should I read under a lamp or a candle? JUST READ THE FUCKING BOOK.
Also, what is the best place to download books now? bookzz that's listed in the sticky doesn't work, and gutenberg, while good, only has older books.

Libgen.
Now fuck off.
