I was really underwhelmed by Steppenwolf.
Don't have much else to say, just I didn't feel like making a whole new thread. If anyone was really touched by Steppenwolf, please enlighten me.

Hesse wanted it to be more like a satire, but apparent everyone labeled it as a new age mysticism thing.
how can a book be so simple but so good?
There are plenty of other things that do though :^)

Can you recommend the books he was trying to satirize?

It takes a certain mindset to get it. Same with most of Hesse's books.

I wouldn't be surprised, the plot is basically dragonball z fan fiction as written by someone who just read 6 wikipedia articles on buddhism/taoism/etc

Hesse lived in India, and his parents were missionaries there. He knew a lot more about Eastern philosophy than an idiot posting on 4chan does.
