I favorite work of literature is the television series E7. It both does incredible things in multiple genres without resorting to being ridiculous or edgy, and actually broke philosophical ground. Magic Mountain is pretty based as well. I am very glad I read Doctor Faustus, Felix Krull, A Man and His Dog and Tristan. Tonio Kroger is very good and features some of his best 'how to write/struggle of the artist' passages. Mario and the Magician suffers because of slow pace without great reward, but it's still worth reading. Mann is much more than just Death in Venice.
