Why did 1984 (and to a lesser extent Animal Farm) become Orwell's most popular work when his nonfiction is so much better?

Neocolonialist/neo-Liberal conspiracy of silence.
1984 and Animal Farm were handy red scare tools.
because his fiction could be enjoyed at two levels:
You could appreciate the well-crafted narrative AND you could understand the social commentary that still remains relevant in our times
Because homage to Catalonia is impossible to use as anti socialist propaganda

Just studied Homage to Catalonia last semester in a 300 level Civil War Literature class. The "Revolution Betrayed" or "Inter-party Fracturing" was the main thing we talked about. The use of anti POUM propaganda demonstrating the backstabbing within the Popular Army done by the Stalinists. The whole idea of political agenda being the main drive for the Stalinists to get involved, almost in a proxy-war sense.
Keep in mind I'm in BC, Canada so our education system is different than the States.

Orwell is only really used as part of the anti-communism agenda of education.
Why do you think they show kids the Communist Manifesto rather than Das Kapital? Because the Communist Manifesto is a strawman and Das Kapital is pretty fucking good.
