why is the bible a pretty good work of art. but somehow Christianity turned out so fucking horrible?
seems like somewhere along the way maybe the devil himself took over it or human beings are just awful.
high lol pop culture pastors make millionaires of dollars basically paraphrasing self-help books but adding God/Jesus at the end. Not to mention every church I've attended seems to put a huge emphasis on donating money(aka tithing) so you can expect to receive some kind of "blessing".
What went so horribly wrong? did ego itself destroy it? or was the Bible not good enough to stand the test of time?
Blame Protestants.
Why did you choose to visit McChurches?

>or human beings are just awful
The Bible itself asserts this constantly.
The NT makes no claims that Christianity will fix all the world's problems, or be free of problems itself. Several of Jesus' parables foresee a church that is at best a mixed bag of true believers and phonies.
Even so, there will always be people trying to do good in Jesus' name.

Human beings are awful anyway but still produce great art. And a lot of Christians probably cherry-pick what they choose to adhere to and tell themselves they aren't or that they're justified. Some people would even say Pauline Christianity cherry-picks from Jesus's teachings.
Because the church is a cult and a political force which changed the Bible and corrupts its message to further worldly ends. Gnostics were the last true Christians and the church killed them off just like the Pharisees had Jesus killed.
First off, churches are supposed to be a meeting of believers, not a seminar so that was your first mistake. Just find a small group of believers that actually follow the Bible and meet with them instead of joining a "church" that just wants to take every penny they can
>actually follow the Bible
Listen OP, disregard what any bible-thumping orange dicklet like >>9651566 tells you. You'll find god in the tradition of the notable churches, not some amateurish offshoot.

You know what's sad? some people actually unironically believe this, even on /lit/
>>9651613
>sad
Why does the truth make you sad?

Bullshit papist swine. The best church imo is the Quaker church. That or the Swedenborgs

Because public education no longer educates people classically, they were never given the chance to read the rich history of Christianity.
For instance you seem completely unaware that the Catholic Church was effectively established just a couple of years after the death of Jesus, and the church fathers personally met the apostles.
Christianity didn't fuck up, protestants did.
Start a lay brotherhood within your local catholic parish.

>the death of Jesus
You mean when his spirit was liberated from the body? Anyway, I'm not arguing the antiquity of the church but its iniquity.

The Bible itself condones violence and intolerance. The crusades were bad, no one can deny that. But the people participating in the crusades weren't deviating from the teachings of the Bible, they were following them.

The crusades were not bad
the protestant ``reformation'' is quite honestly the worst thing that ever happened
