Just started Dune, should I be looking up these terms to better understand the story, or will they eventually be explained?

the dictionary is there in the book for a reason they will not be explained.
The dictionary is in the back of the book and explains most of the terms
Ill monitor this thread if you have any question that it doesn't answer
Why does everyone complain about the terms? It's just really intuitive fantasy speak.
just started too I'm on the 3rd book now, weird how I decided to come here now and this thread shows up, haven't been here in a while, but damn I'm not a reader and I'm loving these books.

yeah I like all 5 or 6? back when I read them. really wish it was finished though. the ending to the last book felt like a giant cliffhanger.

I don't even know what I'm gonna read after these, I might check out his sons dune books, but not sure till iv read franks stuff. I think I'll start on some original love craft since iv always wanted to get into those...

Thats how i got into this board to.

Lovecraft is amazing, please read it
OP here, shit I didn't even realize there was a dictionary in the back of the book, I usually don't look through the end of the book so I don't accidentally spoil myself. Also, even not knowing a lot of the terms, I can still understand the book so far, I just felt I would enjoy the story more knowing the terms.

haha woah. I tried reading Dune when I was like 14 and was absolutely confused. I figured they were just words that I didn't know yet.I also had no clue there was a glossary.
Maybe I'll try it again someday.

don't read the prequels. seriously, don't. you can't even read them ironically, or just to see how bad they are. they ARE that bad.
remember at the end of "Revenge of the Sith" where Darth Vader shouts "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" ? there's a scene like that in one of the prequels. Leto Atreides' first son is killed in a terrorist bombing and when he sees the kid's broken corpse he does the NOOOO thing.
Frank Herbert's writing is like a good steak at a five-star restaurant. the prequels are like half a stick of beef jerky you found down the back of your couch.

The 'terms' are simple constructions from Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, and Arabic.
If you have any sort of good, classical education, then these won't be a problem.
