Definitely not; it makes a good children's book and nothing else. Huck Finn is still canon nowadays so read it unless you want to be out of the loop. This book on the other hand I got nothing out of but wasted time.

You will know whats going on. Tom Sawyer is not required reading in order to understand Huckleberry Finn. Although I did enjoy Tom Sawyer personally.

I've only read the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn but if they're anything like those i'd bet they're pretty fun reads.
