What are some good crime dramas/thrillers? Preferably books that have characters start off with good intentions and lose their way?

LA Confidential
Good intentions are overrated.
Read Richard Stark's Parker novels.
I'll share this one too.
wish there was something like the first 4 seasons of Breaking Bad.
crime dramas, or dad-lit, can be found on any supermarket rack by the checkout. theres your start.
crime drama is best when its pulp, dont expect a classic
>dad-lit
Don't make me feel old anon.
I'll give it one last bump then let the thread die.
I've ordered a few of the books recommended
Seconding the Richard Stark and LA Confidential recs, though I'd recommend reading the first two books in the LA Quartet before Confidential (first two are The Black Dahlia and The Big Nowhere).
Also read The Last Good Kiss by James Crumley and Get Carter (Jack's Return Home) by Ted Lewis.
