I'm going to take a basic Spanish text comprehension test in a week. Whats a simple, short, and enjoyable book to read in Spanish just to get me going?
I thought of Borge's "Ficciones" but perhaps he will use too many complicated words. Perhaps "Dectetives Salvages" by Bolaño? It might be too long.
No Garcia Marques, por favor.

Platero y yo

It's not a simple book and uses a very coloquial language on the dialogues. Also, very specific words, like objects used in the rural areas. I don't think it would be the best book in these case

What would you recommend then, Family?

I actually haven't read that much in my own language, but I would recomend El general no tiene quién le escriba by García Márquez. It's short, not complex and does not uses a shit ton of regionalisms. Maybe El perseguidor by Cortázar if you don't mind the "voseo". Or Los cachorros by Vargas Llosa.
El llano en llamas and Pedro Paramo. Combined less than 300 pages

>El llano en llamas
This is your best option. Many stories don't have difficult language. Pedro Paramo is very difficult.
