Why should I read it then, smart guy? I read it because I'm interested in primitive myths and the common denominator between them, and for a ton of other reasons, honestly.

After I had finished the Iliad and read a few more books, it really hit me how much I enjoyed it.

It's the worlds first anime.

I really appreciate the characters and the story. And I can gush about it forever talking to friends.

But I didn't really enjoy reading the actual text. Maybe it's a translation thing (I read from both Lattimore and Fagles) or maybe I can't into poetry.

You should watch The iliad - what is it really about? on youtube. Before i read the Iliad many years ago, an anon on a start with the greeks thread said watch this after. So i read it then watched the video. It's not super deep or anything, it just kinda brought me some closure

The Iliad is amazing, and by far my favorite book. It's more dense than you might imagine, too, so later readings after some supplementary material makes it even more interesting and exciting. I didn't care for the Odyssey as much as the Iliad (though the former is still great) mainly because it seems less focused and the themes are not so lofty.
