Who here never buys books? I get all my books from the library and can't imagine spending $15-$30 on every one of these. A few books a month would put you into triple-digit book budget area. Last book I bought was How Green Was My Valley for $4 from amazon because my library didn't have it for some reason.
its more like 5-15€ where i live and i enjoy keeping books i liked to build a library.
Most hobbies are generally expensive. At least with this one you can gain valuable knowledge depending on how you use it. Don't worry about using a library. Just purchase the books you enjoy most.
There's sites with cheap used books in great condition

I'm going to be there tomorrow to pick up a book on hold
I like to pirate ebooks. Anyone else?

Go the thrift store and get them for a dollar. Most my books were either a dollar or free.
I work in a used book store, so I get first pick (and can sneakily give myself discounts too). I bought like 10 new books for $5 the other week

I'm a final year lit major and every single text that I've had to read I've managed to get for free from the library, or from public domain ebooks. I've never seen another student with an assigned book from the library, even though there are multiple copies available at the library; every other student just buys all the texts from the uni bookstore.

I always go to my used bookstore or try to buy reasonably priced new copies.
i usually read books a few times and its also nice to build a personal library
(i literally live a block away from the library in your picture)

Generally people like to annotate their texts. Easier to do if you can write directly into the pages
