1/3 of the way thru. Damn it's good. Will need to revisit later in life, but I read when I understand an allusion or reference it truly adds to the novel. How are y'all doing with this book? Have y'all finished it?

Whoops I'm an idiot, meant to write
>when I understand an allusion
It really lives up to the hype. The first read through is pretty wild. It is said that Joyce can't be read, only re-read. Some people re-read the book once a year, and of course your understanding deepens with each pass.
no I don't really like reading
Worse part is upon you.
When "he" goes to work it really drags on.
I've read Dubliners and Portrait and liked them both a lot, this is next and I'm intimidated. Should I wait awhile so I'm more well read when I do take it on or just jump in?

Just jump in. It's an excellent book in terms of language and his experimentation with form, regardless of whether you understand every reference.
