Herman Hesse. I've never read his work, I'm wondering what your thoughts are.
Where should I start?
His first novel The maggik muffin is pretty good

siddhartha, obviously
if you like that, check out narci and goldmund, or demian
steppenwolf also good
glass last

Siddhartha is utter trash. Literally r3ddit in a book, made me cringe. Beneath the Wheel and Glass Bead Game, on the other hand, are great.

Bing bang boom this guy fuckin nailed it
Steppenwolf appeals to normies and is the easiest to understand.
Siddhartha is more complex, but is sorta meh.
NarziĆ und Goldmund is pure Hesse
My personal favorite is Demian
Beneath the wheel is fairly good.
Glass bead game should be read after reading other books of his, otherwise it's fairly boring and incomprehensible.
Imho he's one of the best German language writers out there
in my opinion
shit tier - Siddhartha
mid tier - Steppenwolf
good tier - Narziss and Goldmund
god tier - Demian, Knulp

God damn you are retarded
I told my class that Siddartha was my favorite book during introductions on the first day of class, and my teacher laughed at me.

I have only read Siddhartha and Steppenwolf. Very different from each other but both good imo. I'd say start with Siddhartha, but don't go sour on Hesse if you don't like it.

Siddhartha blew so fucking bad.
