the only purpose of poetry is to provide titles for novels

Pretty much this. Sorry I guess
Poetry can be good and respectable but sometimes I've seen people treat it as kind of a lazier alternative to writing prose.
I had a professor whose poetry to me seemed like a lot of words that were hard to follow and it had a lot of little keyboard symbols in it. Like a lot of {} and [ " [] just in different places. One poem was almost entirely those symbols. I was also in a writing program once where a bunch of the people there freaked out when asked to write in prose saying that it's too hard or ridiculous.

Is there a study that shows a correlation between having good reading comprehension and reading poetry or are you just baiting?

you read prose as you read any text except poetry, taking in information
poetry works differently, is that more often than not you dont retain much of the poem on an initial readthrough like you would read prose

That's right, I just have sex with it
