Poorfag here. This is likely a dumb question but I've always read paperbacks, and well, now that I can afford to buy hardbacks I don't know what to do with the jackets.
Do I take them off when I read the book or leave them on?

Yes, you take them off when reading and put them on when done. They start looking like shit very quickly anyways and have virtually no function, so many just store them separately in a box somewhere or throw them away.

Whatever you think looks better on the shelf. Some jackets are very attractive, but the plain binding is traditional.
theres no right or wrong answer to this
I just throw them in the trash unless particularly good looking like the ones on art books. They're solely there to save the publisher money on binding and marketing.

I have a couple of first editions of Chateaubriand, Rimbaud and Kafka. Proper bindings don't need a wrapper. Now back to /co/, faggot.
you're supposed to wear them, you retard
