What prerequisite reading is there for Paradise Lost? I've only read later works which referenced it, and in each (like Frankenstein) the entire premise just seems diluted in translation.
The only work I've heard talked about as being important to understand Milton's ideas and themes was Canterbury Tales, and I feel like that's only tangential or misremembered.
