>Expect to meet an underground circle of literate edge-lords working together to create beautiful things that no one reads
>Four members are middle-aged women who write chick lit
>One guy is an autist who reads poems he wrote from when he was a teenager
>One guy has written an entire novel but hasn't used paragraphs or speech marks once
>That same guy didn't even realise speech marks were a thing
>Only book he's read is half of something by JK Rowling and it isn't even Harry Potter
Anyone else experienced this?
Yes I experience the exact same thing except there was one other member who didn't contribute at all. Small world.

Oh well that sounds experimental and interesting, wonder why he chose to eschew conventio-
>That same guy didn't even realise speech marks were a thing

It's not even a joke. One of us literally opened a book and pointed to some dialogue and he said, "Oh, so that's what they're for."

For a second, I was really bothered that you used the term speech marks, rather than quotation marks. Actually, I am still bothered, it just doesn't sound appropriate when quotation marks are available as an alternative.
Yes. There was a wandering gay guy who was decent, one of the three chick- lit people had some chops. But the alpha chick-lit leader was so bad it was embarrassing. There were a couple fantasy autists as well. Nice people but I just can't into hero's journey fantasy.

The truth in this hurts.
Hermit life > adapting your work to what some random nobodies think and potentially giving away your brilliant lines of thought
