You can get the complete edgar allen poe for like, 30 bucks and can likely find a decent copy at your local goodwill/thrift shop for like 3 bucks.

Anyone have a chart for getting started in understanding Western philosophy? I'm starting with Plato but who are the major players I need to know, which I can understand as a beginner? I'm not sure chronological order is the best given varying difficulty levels, as I will be following them mostly on my own.
I also hope to read some more modern (i.e. post 1900) texts as well to see how they influence our current society.
