Put this in perspective: what if he had some sort of other way of resisting? As in, what if he decided that he didn't want to kill a bunch of people, because that's fucking retarded, so he took a much more subtle approach to addressing the problem? What if, God forbid, he found some way to fix his home life? Like make life a living hell for his sister and mother? This was the crux of the problem. Near the end, he phoned his parents in a fit of grief to tell them of his desperate loneliness and all they did was send him to a psychologist.
