Why is Sartre considered the bigger existencialist writter when Camus did a much better job with every single one of his books? Most of Sartre's prose is absolutely pointless garbage.

Because Sartre wrote his stances in long, difficult philosophy books, rather than focusing almost entirely on novels.
it's about philosophy, not prose
Nietzsche wrote better than either of them btw

>when Camus did a much better job with every single one of his books?
Camus mostly wrote fiction, not philosophy. Even his essays are not particularly philosophical, but closer to a divulgative writing.
Sartre wrote philosophical treatises making full use of a vast encyclopedic knowledge, books upon Camus writing is based on.
>Why is Sartre considered the bigger existencialist
What do you mean by "bigger"?
The most well-known, yes; the best, certainly not.

Don't worry OP, both are shit in my book.
Are these guys even worth it? What do they add to existensialisn that Nietzsche and Heidegger didn't cover?
I really don't want to disrespect them, but they seem like hacks, like really fancy self help.
>>9501877
I am not an existentialist. Sartre and I are always surprised to see our names linked

kek
>>9501877
Maybe because Sartre actually, you know, wrote a giant non-fiction book called Being and Nothingness explaining his philosophical views?
>>9502182
Sartre added choice as being the most important factor. Camus added...being edgy, I guess? At least Nietzche was attempting to be heroic and romantic in his stance.

>fancy self help.
that's pretty much what existensialist """"philosophy""" is desu
Every existensial philosophy
>wah im sad
>but don't be sad!
Because he was a communist when the entire literaly establishment was communist.
Political allignment is a blessing.

Aswell as Critique of dialectical reason and many many papers on phenomenology and existential negation. Then again, most people miss out on Sartre's philosophical works. OP, doesn't understand that Sartre actually give contributions to ontology and philosophical theory in a bigger scheme, unlike Camus.

Not completely, but Sartre's theory is more complex. Camus essays do exhibit a philosophy of some substance. But Camus's own idea of absurdity views Sartre's points as another rock of Sisyphus.
