What are books/authors that you recommend that will help improve and mature myself and my overall character as a person.
I was raised through elementary and middle school being forced to read religiously by my teachers and this made me develop an avid hate towards reading. Once i got to highschool I spent my free time playing video games and didn't read a single book on my own freewill that entire time. I'm 21 now and realized this is the part of my life that I need to take action to trying to improve myself as much as possible as the next few years will define the man that I will become for the rest of my life. I don't really care what genre of writing it is (philosophical books, memoirs, fiction, nonfiction), I just want to try to improve myself through reading as much as possible.
>TL;DR: Havent read for years and want good books to improve one self all around character/person

Read a few little babby books, like slaughterhouse five, roadside picnic, catch 22, etc. The bottom half of lit's list will help you. After you've read a bit, it's time for babby's first big boy book. I suggest Crime and Punishment. After this, read a few shorter books, like Picture of Dorian Gray. Now read a whole bunch of long or semi long classics from the pic related list. Enjoy, senpai.
