I love Apocalypse Now so much. I don't care if I get shat on for it, but I really think it's a stronger work of art.
You won't understand it unless you've read this guy first.

Probably my favorite book. It's an absolute masterpiece.

This happened to me. High school english ruined it for me. Came back to it in my 30's and saw it in a whole new light.

I'm a huge fan of Conrad but it didn't mean much to me, maybe because I heard the story a ton of times already in different forms.
Nigger of the Narcissus is way better

I know they're far from the same but I just wonder if it would have the same impact on me as for others if Apocalypse Now wasn't already one of my favourite films
Heart of Darkness is one of the most important books of the early Literary Modernist period and indeed the canon as a whole.
It's an excellent example of the way in which perceptions of Africa grounded in Orientalism are used to explore the dichotomous concepts of the Apollonian and Dionysian.
Chinua Achebe was never more wrong than when he said it was a racist book.
Also anybody in here that likes HoD or Apocalypse Now owes it to themselves to watch Herzog's Aguirre

I enjoyed, feel's a little anti-climatic though. It's only a handful of pages long, so blink and you'll miss it.
