This is a ""new"" book

Always buy in-store, never order
>>
I just can't stand comma splices, Opie
>>
buy in store? are you a retard? you want to pay list price for some piece of shit that's been thumbed by 20 different plebs by the time you get it?
>>
omg it's unreadable!

The Epic of Gilgamesh is hardly what I'd consider a "new" book.
Hell, it's barely even a "book"

Also, the Stephen Mitchell translation sucks harshly.

Shut up, OP, you spastic. I've seen books in-store in much worse condition "brand new" because everyone wants to flick through a book before they buy it which means more creases, tears and scratches on the cover and in some cases fucking food because some people are disgusting cave people.

At least if I buy it brand new online, it might be dealt some wear and tear in the post, but nothing much, and it's usually wrapped in bubble wrap or some shit in the packaging.

Penguin Classics doesn't use the Stephen Mitchell translation.

Oh well, my mistake

It's a fucking penguin book, chances are it'll look way worse than that after you've read it (but who am I kidding, you don't intend to read that).

>buy used hardcover off Amazon for $4
>It's obviously from a library
>>
> buy used academic book
> paperback
> receive it in the post
> laminated
> glossy pages
> ink stamps everywhere
> "last person to take out this book was RERBET THOMPSO 19/9/99"
> someone drew smiley faces across the index

this is some real crying of lot 49 shit
>>
So basically you're admitting that you buy books because they look good, and not because you're actually serious about reading them.

This. Penguin books are made out of cheaper paper and the spines crack really easy. I'm reading a pingu classic right now and there's a divot of paper missing from the bottom of the text block, it's like someone hole punched it but not all the way.
