What do you think of Henry Miller? I don't think I've ever seen him discussed here. I really enjoyed the Sexus, Plexus, Nexus Trilogy, Quiet Days in Clichy and Tropic of Cancer.

Wow I think that proved my point. Somebody?

I've only read Tropic of Cancer and In the Time of the Assassins but I think he's absolutely amazing.
i thought the passages from the Tropics we were forced to read in grade 12 were good at the time but haven't picked him up since. My high school sensibilities were pretty shit though, so I don't trust my judgement very well in that regard

Love some Miller. I've read Tropic of Cancer, Capricorn and Black Spring. They're all good, though I have to admit the second half of Capricorn lost me a little bit with the profuse descriptions. Those sex scenes where he describes coming together, their bodies morphing and shit was some seriously trippy shit and I couldn't believe he just kept going. I was waiting and waiting, expecting him to move on, but no. The fucker just keeps going and at the end you don't even know what the fuck he's talking about anymore. It was incredible and I should reread it.
Suffice to say, there really isn't another writer like Miller. Bukowski wishes he could write half as well as him.

The Tropics are fine except for the apocalyptic riffs. Some of his other books (Quiet Days in Clichy, Big Sur, Stand Still Like a Hummingbird) are far better.
Surprisingly good, I found.
He has his own axes to grind, so don't his writings at face value when it comes to biography or history.
