I think to understand the fullness of this world, you have to look at it as many aspects as you can. Reading things you disagree with, or things you find ridiculous, is a good practice. It helps you refine and better understand the sensible things.
One the best professors I ever had was a tried and true Rationalist/Formalist, but I took his courses because he had a very good grasp on post-modern theory. Not because he thought it was right, but because he needed to understand his ideological opposites.
I took the courses because he could explain Baudrillard and Lyotard better than the teacher who taught that stuff (though I took her class too). The dude was kind of fucking obnoxious at times, but had I looked at his class and just said "fuck formalism", I'd have missed out on a lot.

all is vanity

ironic retreat from modernity
It's important to me to constantly question even the most foundational moral, metaphysical, and political beliefs that I and those around me hold. When an author says something that is widely condemned, I need to examine what is wrong about it myself rather than defer to consensus or common sense. It's my strategy for continuous learning and growth and acquiring the skills and knowledge to execute bloody revolution.
all philosophy is fucking gay honestly intellectualism is a totally self-serving thing not everyone can sit and debate leninism while worshiping the sacred cow of opinions
They are convinced that if they can become experts in the obscure and impenetrably dull they will at last be respected and taken seriously as scholars and writers. And you know, some of them might achieve some modest amount of fame within suitably obscure circles, but it won't make them happy. They will die unfulfilled, having never really enjoyed anything.
