Lord of the Rings books are excellent, the movies are very good also.

Potter books are poorly written and over all just not very good, the movies are awful.

Song of Ice & Fire are not particularly well written but fine overall, the tv show is very good.

You can't possibly say that Tolkien is not a good writer.

Just finished ASOIAF. Honestly think the show was better than the books until they had material. Last couple of seasons completely turned to shit.

The books are generally more realistic, all the politics and war tactics are nicely fleshed out, as well as the characters BUT THERE'S SO MUCH FUCKING FAT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CUT! For instance all of Brienne's chapters in AFFC is just her talking to some peasant we'll never see again. Bah!
