momentarily making me feel like someone else is there and sharing my thoughts. Exhilarating meetings with minds who share my concerns or aesthetic sensibility which make me feel slightly less alienated and individuated for a short while.

>What's the highest achievement literature can reach?
Bible status.
>What has literature done for me?
It taught me to be more introspective and empathetic. It improved my vocabulary, diction, and confidence when speaking to others. It gave me wonderful worlds that now feel like pleasant dreams, and it's always inspired me and encouraged me to always seek the beauty or simplicity in life. It taught me that I'm never alone, and even when I feel by myself, I have nothing to be afraid of because I understand myself better. It taught me to be patient, to listen, and to do my best for myself by others. And that greatness can come from anywhere at anytime, and to never give up.

It doesn't matter. You can get that from most any legitimate book. Just pay attention to everything I've listed. It's everything you do while reading. A few of them are just general lessons you take from most any book.

The best literature can do is crystallize little images of aesthetic power – often of life's suffering in miniature – to draw on and make life slightly more bearable during reflective moments. It can't solve any problems, give any new insight, or even make life bearable simpliciter.
