That happened to me recently, and I just gave up completely. I treated the exam as a game: I would see how many questions I would be able to answer but would not trouble myself with any that were too hard. As a result I was unnaturally relaxed and calm. I was one of the first students to finish.

One quarter of the class failed, I got 61%.
