What are your thoughts on the mystery genre? Who are your favourite

I've just realized that I've never properly read any mystery books.

I like The Name of The Rose.

Most mystery stuff is just genre and not a popular one these days. Used to be a big thing.

I just read VNs by the japs, those are the good contemporary works
the ability to show the reader important images lends itself really well to the genre

I'm not well-read in the genre, but I find that Arthur Conan Doyle, Dashiell Hammett, and Raymond Chandler all live up to the hype.
