There are certainly dull periods in the book, but it requires focus to push through. It's one of my favorite books and I'd probably reread it if there wasn't so many other great books out there. Recently read the tale of the shipwreck Essex which is a real story which influenced Melville to write it.

I don't understand how you people cannot think Moby Dick is an incredible work of art, from the first to the last sentence.

Every single passage of writing is glowing with literary prowess. It is a powerhouse of a work. A masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Even the cetology chapters were you think nothing is happening couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, I prefer the cetology chapters a lot of the time to the actual narrative.

It is not a novel. It is a divine piece of prose.
