If this article was written by a white man and every mention of Wallace was replaced with Alice Walker or Maya Angelou and white man with black woman, I'd have a feeling most people would find what she wrote quite offensive.
And she's missing one of the biggest points of literature, finding a way to relate with people you have had no relation with yet, she seems to think its purpose is the exact opposite.
Can you hate a writer for their style and/or topic choice? Sure, and she, for a line or so, did say she did not care for the "sad white man" as a subject, but clearly her hate is directed more towards the males she has met who liked DWF and her perception of society rather than his work. And it also goes back to my previous point, if I said I did not like Achebe, which is not true, he's my second favorite author, because all of his protagonists were black, I would be rightfully branded a bigot, and again would be missing one of the main points of literature.
This person needs to reexamine their literature beliefs.

I'll be honest here, I only took a cursory glance at this, but after reading the article in its eternity, I have more to add. She does seem to have a problem with men, appropriately as well, with the experiences she has had. And I will admit BIHM was not a book she needed to read, though her analysis of it was one dimensional and she missed the other points of it. Being raped by a DFW fan would probably destroy anyone's perceptions of DFW. My immediate reaction was annoyance at someone racially/sexually judging an author and the fans of said author instead of the author's work, but I realize this is not a review, it is an article on how a man and other men ruined a woman's enjoyment of literature. I'd also say her last conclusion does not hold up because DFW had plenty of books not about "men mostly being bad," but that is not what this article is about.

It's always about their feelings and their "experiences." These people could write a whole library of books about themselves, it's their favourite subject. I think that on a basic level, literature requires too much empathy on the part of the reader for these sort of women to be able to enjoy it.

Why does /lit/ love this? The article is basically: pleb girl's male friends are all turbo-plebs and assholes, this reflects poorly on turbo-pleb author.
